The Lego Movie

1. To produce a film you must first plan how the film is carried out. Then it is filmed following the plan, for example if the plan says you have to film in a certain place then you follow the plan and film in that certain place. Then you have to edit the film so all the scenes fit together. After that you must market it so that means advertising the film to the right audience. Then you must exhibit it so you have to play the film in relevant cinemas.

The Lego Movie Intertextuality                             3-5-18
L/O: to explore the intertextuality of The Lego Movie

Postmodernism
Postmodernism films often contain the following characteristics:

-Challenges genre conventions: might be a mixture of many genres; challenge typical character roles etc.
-Pastiche: imitates other texts, humorous take on society/culture.
-Hyper-reality:makes the audience aware that they are watching a movie.

The Lego Movie is a post-modern film because even though Emmet is supposed to be the hero at some points in the movie he has to be saved which challenges the role of being the hero, also Batman challenges the typical character conventions because he is a superhero however he doesn't act like a superhero in the movie.. The Lego Movie has a humorous take on society because in the movie Emmet is charged $37 for a cup of coffee. The Lego Movie makes the audience aware that they are watching a movie because near the end of the movie it cuts from the storyline and switches to reality were the son is playing with the fathers lego set and he is getting told off.

Target Audience                                                                        10-5-18

L/O: To identify the target audience using demographics and psychographics.

-Children who like to play with lego 4-8 yrs old.
Children want to watch the lego movies because the different characters such as batman and
Vitruvius appeal to children. The good vs evil storyline appeals to the children.
-Parents who used to play with lego when they were younger.
The voice actors such as Morgan Freeman and Chris Pratt appeal to the parents.
-Teens who go to the cinema a lot.
Teens would watch this movie because of the humour and the voice over actors such as Will Ferrell.

 21/5/18
Locations: Both movies have a big city as the main setting.
Both have simulated worlds, then they both have real worlds.
Matrix has simulated worlds, and The lego movie has the themed worlds.

Characters: Emmet is Neo, they are the chosen ones.
                   Wildstyle is Trinity, the sidekick
Vitruvius is Morpheus, they are the mentors.

Themes/messages:
-To believe in yourself
-Not to believe everything you see and hear

Narrative: Good vs Evil, they both believe that they are both ordinary people and then they go on an adventure with people that say they are the special then at the end they believe in themselves and turn into the specials.

Evaluate the advantages and the disadvantages of the intertextual relationship between the Matrix and The Lego Movie.

The advantage of basing the lego movie on the matrix is that adults or parents going to watch the movie with there children will get the references from when they watched the matrix. With the lego movie being based on the matrix it will stand out to a larger audience who enjoyed the matrix. The disadvantage of basing the lego movie on the lego movie is that the children who go to watch the movie will not get the references and they won't know that the movie is based on the matrix. Another disadvantage of the lego movie being based on the matrix is if the parents didn't watch the matrix and wouldn't get the references.  I think that basing the lego movie on the matrix was a good idea because the parents will also enjoy the movie because of the references, as well as the children.
